~Trashy to Trendy~ turning plastic bags into chic one of a kind bags

SHOPPING BAGS, TRASH BAGS, DRY-CLEANING BAGS. They litter our streets, collect in our landfills and clutter our cupboards.

Well-known textile designer, Sheila Odessey is turning plastic bags into chic one-of-a-kind bags and totes. Since her lay-off this past spring, she has started her own business designing eco-friendly, custom made accessories. Each bag is distinctive on its own and the collection is a clever and fashionable delight. A must have accessory on every “green” girl’s list.

These unique bags are all hand-made with various recycled plastics from department stores, drug stores, boutiques to unused trash bags. Odessey cuts them into strips and weaves them into fabric to produce environmentally friendly one-of-a-kind bags and totes. The color and/or graphics of each individual plastic bag create a distinctive design and novel texture when woven into cloth resulting in a singular and original artwork.
